Otto1890 Weekend Warrior makes highly anticipated debut at Lourensford Wine Estate, benefiting Raise 4 A Child
Cape Town, South Africa – The Otto1890 Weekend Warrior series is bringing its premier mountain biking experience to the spectacular Lourensford Wine Estate for the very first time. Set to take place on the 17 and 18 of October 2026, the two-day stage race is expecting a turnout of around five hundred riders, combining world-class trails, family-friendly festivities and a powerful charitable mission.
Following a record-breaking opening round earlier this year in Grabouw, which saw an unprecedented 480 riders take to the trails, the Lourensford edition promises to elevate the Weekend Warrior experience even further. The momentum behind the series is bolstered by a landmark three-year commitment from Otto1890 (formerly Sasfin Wealth), which has stepped up as the title sponsor to champion the growth of the event.
For Otto1890, this event reflects the business’s belief in building meaningful connections, supporting active communities and families and bringing its “Investing is personal” philosophy to life through experiences that bring people together.
“What makes this event special is that it’s built for the whole family, not just the riders chasing a podium. Whether you’re tackling the Gold route or bringing the kids along for a weekend in the vineyards, there’s a place for everyone,” says Erol Zeki, CEO of Otto1890
“We’re also honoured that the Lourensford event supports Raise 4 A Child, giving vulnerable children access to education, mentorship and healthcare,” he added.
Trails for every warrior
Nestled beneath the Helderberg mountains, Lourensford offers riders an exclusive pass into flowing singletracks, forested climbs, and breathtaking vineyard terrain. Knowing that the region boasts its fair share of climbing, the event organisers have carefully curated multiple distance options to ensure an inclusive, enjoyable weekend for all fitness levels.
Daily distances are broken down into three categories:
- Bronze: Approximately 10km to 12.5km, Perfect for those wanting a shorter, rewarding ride
- Silver: Approximately 27km to 28.5km
- Gold: Approximately 42.5km to 52km
Riding for a cause: Raise 4 A Child
At this event, participants will be riding for much more than just a finisher’s medal. The Lourensford event serves as a major fundraiser for Raise 4 A Child (R4C), an NPO dedicated to uplifting vulnerable youth, proudly backed by the Hyperclear group and its network.
R4C channels its support to Bright Start, an organisation providing holistic educational programs, mentoring, safe transport and healthcare to children in under-resourced communities. A percentage of all entry fees will go directly to R4C and 100% of any additional donations made during registration will fund this life-changing work on the ground.
The partnership was inspired by Race Director Shaun Glover, who recently rode the grueling Cape Epic as part of a six-man R4C team, helping to raise over R250000. Riders and spectators at Lourensford are also encouraged to participate in the event’s “Book and Equipment Drop-Off” at the R4C gazebos to further support the cause.
A complete weekend getaway
Beyond the riding, the Otto1890 Weekend Warrior Lourensford is a full-scale outdoor festival. Participants can choose from multiple accommodation options, ranging from “Bring Your Own Tent” to fully equipped Single and Double Luxury Tents set up for the weekend.
The vibrant Race Village will feature:
- Lourensford Market: Come on Friday and enjoy all that the Lourensford Market has to offer, with food vendors, live music, and incredible vibes for the whole family, making the weekend that much more exciting.
- Family fun with Westvaal: An exciting kids’ play area and jumping castle.
